Field Notes...

Been sick as shit the past 3 days...fever, shivering, cough, clogged, SUCK. Sleep, work, and everything is stacking up...I want to race this weekend...not so sure.

This is a piece I wrote from the class this past weekend...It's about a climb in NH, but seems like it fits with cycling too?

The Roof-

Pawtuckaway, China Pond, mosquitoes, black flies, calm…
Time stands still here and all that remains is focus.
Breath in slow motion, crouch and be still like a sniper,
eyes lazers.
The moment won’t last, it can’t.
Arms burn here, legs begin to tremble.
Sweat will blur your eyes soon enough.
In this moment you need faith, need to believe, that when you jump
It will be there.
And if you don’t see it,
if you don’t leap blindly at the abyss with utter conviction,
it just won’t work.
The moment is precise, a punctuation.
Chalk hangs in the air.
Once it happens everything else falls into place, a puzzle solved.
Your jaw will relax, easy breath will come creeping in.
Suddenly you become aware of your surroundings.
You let your body go limp as it is lowered to the ground.

Catching up

Spent the weekend catching up around the house and being lazy...it was a hard week...just wishing I was back in Guatemala and wish I wasn't back to work and school...It was really nice to forget about all that stuff for a while, but it all caught up with me this week...I didn't do any homework or grading over the break and this week was chaos.

Got my commuting in this week, but not much more in the way of mileage...Was all psyched to do a long ride home on Fri...until my rear wheel literally exploded during my 5th period class...it was impressive...the rim was worn pretty thin and it probably got just warm enough in my class by the end of the day...It was an incredibly loud blast, kids screaming and all...tore the metal of the rim and sprayed the inter tube all over...so much for that...road bike is out of commission till I get a new wheel built...gonna have to do some night rides on the ol(errr new) MTB.

Ran Phife a bunch, ate some good food, saw a movie(Children of Men...pretty good), drank beer on the roof, and walked around the neighborhood.

Not a bad way to get back into the swing of things.
